Boyer to be a Badger

Over the past three years, Fort Zumwalt West senior , Jasmine Boyer has been a constant in the shot ring and has shown steady improvment on the field throwing the discus. After an off-season of being one of the most heavily recruited female throwers in the nation, Jasmine has made her decision and will become a University of Wisconsin Badger.

The two-time state champion says that much thought played a part in her decision. After in-home visits with the Universities of Miami, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Kansas, Louisville, Oklahoma State and UCLA her decision was to attend University of Wisconsin, in part, because of her on-campus visit.

"To me, my choice was made not only based on my athletic ability, but on what I want to do after I graduate college. I plan to major in business and pre-med with an emphasis on orthopedics. The school visit was very eye-opening, the campus amazing, as were the students that I met. I am really looking forward to training under coach Will Wabaunsee, because I believe that he can take my throwing to the next level and help me realize my dreams of being the NCAA Div I champion and my goal of qualifying for the the 2012 Olympics."

Jasmine started her sporting career as a young 100m dash sprinter; however, her destiny quickly turned one day on a bet that she couldn't throw the shot.

"It was one summer during the AAU season and a friend bet me to do the shot put. I competed that summer winning every meet and getting second at Nationals. I never ran the 100 again"

Since that first season, Jasmine has shown steady improvement each year by increasing her shot putting distance each year by two feet.  Last year culminated in her increasing her distance by three feet over her previous personal best and repeating as the 2008 Missouri Class 4 State Champion in the Shot.

Jasmine's success can be attributed to her family's philosophy of, when the season is over, IT IS OVER, which keeps the fire burning inside of her. Jasmine credits her Mom and Dad (Tosha and Ken), and coaches Allen, Tritz, and Bingham for continually seeking more knowledge and challenging her with new ideas.

Before Jasmine dons the cardinal and white of Wisconsin she has one season left as a FZW Jaguar. Her goals for the 2009 T&F season are to elevate her distances to 50 ft + in the shot, 150 ft in the discus and to be State Champion in both.

On behalf of the MoRunners community we would like to thank Jasmine  for the great memories she has given us and wish her well this upcoming season. Congratulations on becoming a BADGER!!!
