Rocky Start to 09 Season: 3/23 - 3/29 Tracy Rollins Mar 29, 2009

The 2009 track and field season started off with a whimper this past week as a late season snow/ice storm barreled thru the state. The few meets that didn't cancel saw horrible conditions and reduced participant count as many scratched not wanting to take any chances this early in the season.

There were some very good performances turned in this week as we had 19 athletes that made the national silver  second team standard, with one of those being a first team sold standard performance. There was another 113 athletes that made the MoRunners.com elite standard with their performances.

Liberty junior Megan Yohe burst on the scene two years ago helping her Liberty Blue Jays to the state title. She has shown steady improvment since then, winning the Big 7 Conference Championship, coming in second at District 8, winning  Sectional 4 and earning her first All-State award by finishing 11th as a sophomore.

This year she picked up right where she left off, winning the Liberty Inv and the Paul Enke Inv in St Louis. She then finshed 3rd behind the thundering Colts duo, of Sisson and Robison at Rim Rock. She bounced back repeating as the champion of the Big 7 Conference and District 8.

Man on a mission Tracy Rollins Oct 30, 2008

Caleb Hoover, sophomore at College Heights Christian School in Joplin, came out of nowhere last season to finish 2nd overall in Class 1 cross country behind teammate Ethan Beaver and helped to lead his team to the title with a Class 1 record of merely 17 points.  As great as that sounds, Caleb looks back upon that day with disappointment.

Like Father, Like Daughter? Tracy Rollins Oct 28, 2008

Last year, East Newton’s Arielle Miller finished off her first State Cross Country Championship experience with a disappointing 97th place finish while running a 23:18.  A mid-season illness saw Arielle’s once promising freshman season fade slowly from top 10 All-State potential to being her team’s number 6 runner.  Now, one year later, that disappointment has fueled the East Newton sophomore to three sub 19 minute performances and the brink of the impossible:  A State Championship.
