District 6 and 7 may have swapped district numbers, but regardless of where they go, this district is still all Lutheran Kansas City.
Number one runner Jesse Schultz finished fourth at the 2017 state meet, capping off an improbable season for the junior, and followed that up with a second place finish in the Class 1 3200 last spring, running 9:54.59. Schultz has yet to dazzle us on the course yet, but if his past two seasons are any indication, we have yet to see the Lutheran KC's best. Saturday's district meet could just bring that out as he will be chased by teammate Christian Hinrichs. Both boys have all-state medals on their walls and were major keys to their team's third place finish at last year's state meet. The should cruise to victory in the team race while Montrose, Russellville, and Smithton duke it out for the second qualifying spot.
Lutheran KC appears ready to dominate the girls race, too, as Lauren Ada returns to defend her district title from 2017. She will be challenged, though, by teammate Abigail Allred who, in her first cross country season, as provided a major boost to an already solid squad. Madison Chappetta makes it three Crusaders in the top four and all seven of their girls sit in the top fifteen in our virtual meet. They should easily stave off Russellville's challenge for the district title.
