The Class 4 girls race the 3rd race of the first day of the 2022 MSHSAA State Cross Country Championships. While temperatures were decent for racing, the ladies in Class 4 had to battle increasingly stronger winds. The Tolton Catholic girls were Championship Factored up to Class 4 a year after winning Class 3.The jump didn't bother the Trailblazers, who crossed the road from their campus to the Gans Creek Course and won the Class 4 title.
MICDS senior Julia Ray won her second state title, winning the Class 4 crown in 18:14. Runner-up Julia Donnelly of Washington High School was 2nd a year after taking 4th in both state cross country and state wrestling.
Zaggle of Zizzers?
Six West Plains Lady Zizzers and their candy-striped red and white shorts can be seen racing shortly after the 1000-meter mark in the Class 4 girls race on one of the wide turns at the 2022 state cross country championships.

Sophomore Standout
With tape on her ankle, Tolton Catholic sophomore Elyse Wilmes runs to a 7th-place finish in 19:20 to lead the Trailblazers to the Class 4 team title on Friday, November 4th, 2022, a year after she claimed the Class 3 individual title and Tolton won the Class 3 team title. Wilmes has dealt with an ankle injury since Spring and was wearing a boot the following day while cheering the Tolton boys on to the Class 3 team title.
Smile at the Mile
Ft. Zumwalt South senior Sarah Morrison (#1287) has a big smile on her face at the mile mark of the Class 4 Girls race. Morrison smiles while looking into the crowd, prompted by possibly a friendly face or a unicorn.
Destined Dixons
Granddaughters of former West Plains Zizzers legendary cross country coach Joe Bill Dixon, senior Kaylea Dixon (#1424) and freshman Emma Dixon (#1423) run up the hill just past the mile mark in the Class 4 girls race at the 2022 MSHSAA State Cross Country Championships, Friday, November 4. Joe Bill was on hand to watch Kaylea finish 63rd and Emma finish 79th to help West Plains to a 6th-place team finish.
