2022 MSHSAA State Championship Class 5 Boys Recap

At the front of the pack, from left, is Blue Springs South's Trystn Hammer (1853), Joplin's Hobbs Campbell (1916), Rockhurst's Henry Acron (2023) and Lee's Summit West's Jack Williams.

The rest of the top 10 individual runners featured three seniors, a junior and two sophomores.

Kansas-bound Hobbs Campbell took fifth place for Joplin, followed by sophomore Henry Acorn of Rockhurst. Lee's Summit West sophomore Jack Williams came in seventh, three-tenths of a second behind Acorn.

Pattonville's Luke Stevenson took eighth place, a giant jump after taking 95th last fall.

Blue Springs South's Trystn Hammer also made a big move up to take all state, moving from 63rd to ninth in his final race. Another senior, Myles Thornburg, picked up another all-state medal for Liberty . Last year, he took 25th to bring home the final all-state medal.

Last year's champions, Kickapoo, placed third and Jackson won a tiebreaker with Ray-Pec for the fourth-place trophy. Rock Bridge's trophy is the 11th and fourth in a row.

Kickapoo's trophy is the ninth overall for the Springfield school and marks the first multiple trophies in a row since bringing home three in a row from 1993-1995.

Jackson is bringing home only its second-ever trophy and first since 1977, when MSHSAA had only two classes. Bryce Gentry took 17th place for the Indians.
