Scouting Report: Rockhurst HS

Rockhurst Boys

While this team did get second last year, this years team will be much different.  Six out of the top seven runners have graduated, leaving only Van Schlogel from last years state team. Schloegel should be a great leader as he comes into his senior season with a best time of 16:02.  Behind him Rockhurst will relay on what was a strong JV team from last year.  Last year the JV team won KC Metro.  Runners like Carson Bode, Curran Steck, Daniel Pericich, and Carl Nelson will most likely fill out the other scoring positions.  All of them are hovering over the 17 minute mark for 5K.

They might not have Zach Herriott this year, but Rockhurst should continue to put out a solid XC team.  Losing six of your seven varsity runners is tough but they look like they can continue to produce one of the better teams in the state.

Coach Dierks Says...

"We have a group of kids who are excited and have been working hard. We will have many opportunities for new guys to race varsity since we have to replace 8 of last year's top 10. We have 10 guys who have run under 18 returning and so we don't know exactly how things will go early on in the season. Their focus is really strong and they have come together with a team packing mentality. They have set their goals high once again to return to state as a team and to  bring home hardware. Last several years have been very special for the program and the school and this group talks about carrying on by giving their best."

"Our team will race against great competition just about every time we toe the line and we think that will help give us experience as long as they can find positive ways to keep getting better. We race at Aquinas against potentially the top team in Kansas and Kansas City, MO and then travel to St. Louis for the Forest Park XC Festival. We will compete at Rim Rock and KC Metro and then prepare for state series."

"As a coach, it is both exciting and challenging when you graduate tremendous people and hope that their talents and treasures have rubbed off on the younger kids. We welcome over 90 kids to the program this year and will be working with them all to reach down inside and see the greatness that they can possess when they put together the four components of physical, emotional, intellectual and social motivations and actions. If we can help kids understand the skills and attitudes necessary to do this, we will have a great year."
