Central (St. Joseph) Girls
It may not seem like it but I believe this team has a great chance of qualifying for the state meet. Last year eight freshman were All-State in the Class 4 girls race. While middle school results are not kept as thoroughly as high school results, some of the best incoming freshman are going Central's team. Paityn Howat ran 5:26 last year while Abigal Burr ran just over five and a half minutes. With another incoming freshman also coming in with a sub six minute mile time, they have a solid freshman trio. Put that together with top returner Kaylee Ball, a 20:39 runner, and Central (St. Joseph) should be able to hold their own with some of the top teams in Kansas City.
Coach Miller Says...
"The make up of our girl’s team will look drastically different. We graduated 4 of our top 5 runners from last season, and missed qualifying for state by 12 points. We have some experienced Juniors coming back and a very talented freshmen class arriving. Our top 3 runners this year will probably be freshmen and all have high expectations to compete with the best runners in Kansas City. "
"Our schedule this year is pretty similar to the past, with KC Metro and Rim Rock being our larger local meets. One change is adding the Forest Park Invitational in week 2. "
"It is a little hard to predict what we are capable of at this point. Our freshmen have never raced at 5K, and our experienced runners will be asked to contribute at a higher level this season. I would like to think we are capable of repeating as District Champions and will make a serious run at qualifying our team for the state meet. With no seniors on varsity this season, coupled with some additional talented runners coming our way, I think we will be a consistently competitive team for the next several years. "
