Week 5: Scorching Heat Cannot Stop Scorching Times

Francis Howell Sweeps Six Flags Open

The boys and girls of Francis Howell High did some flexing at the Six Flags Open this Saturday - a meet which they co-host with Maryville University. After the meet was pushed back a week due to some scheduling conflicts with the park, the field for the high school races lightened significantly, allowing for the Vikings to show off their depth and ability. The varsity boys started it off with a victory, led by senior Anthony Giacalone. He picked up a 29 second victory over Lebanon's Brayden Simpson and his teammate Austin Joyce. The boys scored 25 for 48 point win. On the girls side, freshman Maggie May ran a big PR (20:27) and led the team with her 2nd place finish. Senior Erin Gilbert, coming back from a prolonged illness, was 3rd overall in the race. It was Calli Beshore from Nevada, though, who would take home the individual victory. Her 20:14 was 13 seconds ahead of May. She continues to be one of Class 3's top 15 individuals. Howell also showed off its depth by picking up victories in the JV Boys and JV Girls, where they scored 16 points.
