The girls javelin event is an event that will have a lot of new champions in 2023.

Four of the five state champs last May graduated and the only returning title winner is Liberty's Morgan Cannon. She is also the top of the list when it comes to returning throwers from 2022. Her throw of 148 feet, 3 inches came in the state finals, which was a career best. Third-place finishers McKenah Sears of Grain Valley is back  third best-returning throw -- fourth-place finisher Alaina Norman of Republic, sixth-place finisher Mele Taula of William Chrisman and eighth-place finisher Madison Hoffman of Blue Springs South are returning throwers.

Eight of the top 10 returning distances are from Class 5 throwers. The exceptions are Jennifer Hinkle of Knox County (Class 1) and Clark County's Olivia Miller (Class 2). Hinkle will be teammates with Cannon at the University of Missouri.
